Aberdeen, WA – A left turn lane at US 12 and Chehalis Street is now in operation.

Crews from the Washington State Department of Transportation had restriped a segment of eastbound US 12 near Chehalis Street to create a new left-turn and on Thursday took down the no left turn sign, activating a traffic light in its place.

An advisory was given for the change at the beginning of June, with crews beginning preparations for the adjustment.

WSDOT said that the changes are the result of a Practical Solutions process that saw traffic engineers looking for “cost-effective ways to improve traffic flow and reduce the potential for collisions”.

Previously, traffic was forced to move onto side streets or cross the highway to get into the residential neighborhood in East Aberdeen.
