A woman was taken into custody on Monday night after stabbing a man in Hoquiam.
Police were called after the 45 year old woman allegedly stabbed the man in front of her home in the 300 block of M street around 3 pm.
Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers told KOMO;
“She is someone we’re very familiar with. She has a long history of mental health problems”.
Reports to KXRO show that the man was taken to Grays Harbor Community Hospital, where he died from his injuries.
A standoff began when officers arrived at the home and the woman barricaded herself inside.
As the local Critical Response Unit (CRU) surrounded the home, Chief Myers told KOMO that;
“They saw her walking around [inside the home] with a large hunting-type knife and she was also moving around with an axe”.
The Hoquiam woman surrendered to police around 7:30 and was taken into custody and booked into Grays Harbor County Jail on Murder and Assault charges.
“We’ve had so much history with her and mental health issues,” said Chief Myers to KOMO. “It continues to bring attention to the problem we have in this state and this country in not dealing with people that are suffering from mental illness.”
The woman was booked into Grays Harbor County Jail in July with Assault with a Knife, and rebooked a week later for Domestic Violence, as well as a booking in August for Assault 3.
