Unemployment locally follows state trend over 2 months

Grays Harbor unemployment rose in October from the September rate, but below August numbers, sitting at 10.9%. Even with the drop, we are still the highest unemployment for the state. In September, our unemployment was 10.4%.

The Pacific County unemployment rose in October, up to 10%. In August, the rate sat at 9.6%. In September, Pacific had an unemployment rate of only 9.3% before increasing in October.

Washington’s unemployment rate was relatively constant over the past two months. Numbers released last week by the Employment Security Department show that the state’s unemployment rate was 6.9% in September and 7% in October.

Due to the federal shutdown, the Washington state Employment Security Department did not release the September unemployment report for Washington counties until yesterday.
