TROOPER SHOOTING TRIAL CONTINUES

The trial of a man accused of shooting a Washington state trooper last February in Long Beach is under way in Tacoma.

Forty-six-year-old Martin A. Jones of Seaview is charged with attempted murder in the attack on Trooper Scott Johnson.

He survived the shooting and is now Pacific County sheriff.

Prosecutors say Johnson is certain Jones is the man who fired into the back of his head as Johnson was impounding a minivan belonging to Jones’ wife after a drunken driving stop.

The defense lawyer, David Allen, says Johnson is simply mistaken and that Jones was home at the time of the shooting.
