Mary Stinchfield has resigned from the Hoquiam City Council.

In a letter to Mayor Jasmine Dickhoff and the council, Stinchfield thanked them for the opportunity to serve, although said that her cancer needs her full time attention.

Stinchfield was appointed to the council in January, filling a vacancy.

Prior to and during her term of service, Stinchfield had been integral in the creation and operation of the Hoquiam Beautification Committee.

Former Councilwoman Angela Forkum stepped down from that seat in December.

Stinchfield’s seat had been included into the offices up for election this year, although no candidates had placed their name on the ballot during Filing Week.

It is not known how soon the City will look to appoint a new resident to the seat in Ward 6.
