Shrimp boat recovered near Ocean Shores

The Washington Department of Ecology recovered the 74-foot shrimp boat that had been drifting near Ocean Shores for more than three weeks.

Low tides on Sunday allowed crews to recover the boat that had possibly 3,000 gallons of diesel fuel on board that the Department of Ecology said was slowly leaking.

The Privateer reportedly could carry up to 6,000 gallons.

According to the Coast Guard three people were rescued from the boat after it began taking on water through a 12 inch hole in its hull less than a mile from Grays Harbor on April 15.

The vessel was abandoned after responders initially tried to use pumps on the boat.

Officials said they were waiting for better low tide conditions to access the vessel.
