In all things practice makes perfect, including emergency preparedness. Aberdeen Police Chief Bob Torgerson encouraged a packed Aberdeen Council Chamber to practice evacuating tsunami zones as a way of prepping for a massive disaster like the one that hit Japan. In addition to evacuation routes, Torgerson encouraged the formation of 72 hour kits, out of area phone contacts and emergency notification systems like weather radios and AHAB sirens. Torgerson also said several evacuation sites are being rethought to avoid liquifaction issues. Sam Benn Park, Bassich Boulevard and Grays Harbor College are the main centers in Aberdeen.
