PACIFIC COUNTY SHERIFF TAKES STAND IN SHOOTING TRIAL

A former Washington state trooper shot in the head a year ago has testified he’s certain the man on trial in his case is the person who shot him. In response to questioning Monday by Assistant Attorney General John Hillman, Scott Johnson told a Superior Court jury that defendant Martin A. Jones is the one who shot him last Feb. 13 in
Long Beach.  Jones’ defense team says Johnson is mistaken and Jones was home
at the time of the shooting. Jones is charged with attempted murder.  On the night of the shooting, the trooper and a tow truck driver were impounding a DUI vehicle when someone opened fire. Johnson and the tow truck driver both say they got a good look at the gunman.  Johnson is now the Pacific County sheriff.
