Ocean Shores sending their prisoners to Hoquiam

The Hoquiam City Council passed a new jail contract with the city of Ocean Shores.

The council heard from Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers who explained how the contract will work well for both Hoquiam and Ocean Shores, saying that “it is considerably less distance for them to travel from Ocean Shores to Hoquiam than it is to travel all the way to County Jail.”

Although the rate is slightly higher than it is at the County Jail, Myers said that the savings of time and gas made the decision easier.

Myers said the contract will be similar to the one that the cities of Grays Harbor have with the county.
