Ocean Shores Newborn Death Ruled a Homicide

2 Grays Harbor residents are in custody following the death of a newborn in Ocean Shores. That death is being ruled a Homicide.

Police agencies from throughout Grays Harbor were on scene in Ocean Shores after the baby was found in a vacant lot.

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers said that around 6 pm on Friday, a woman was walking her dog in the 200 block of Fisher Ave NE, south of the Ocean Shores Municipal Airport, when she noticed a rag hanging from a tree. When she went over to look at the vacant lot, she saw what appeared to be the body of an infant on the ground.

Ocean Shores Paramedics were called to the scene and found the baby was deceased, and the birth appeared to be recent.

According to Myers, tips from residents led detectives to the possible mother of the dead infant and her boyfriend at a nearby motel. Detectives believe that the infant was born at the motel before being left in the lot.

An autopsy was conducted Sunday on the newborn girl. Deputy Coroner Lane Youmans said that the baby died as a result of skull fractures and brain injuries due to blunt force injury of the head.

Both suspects were booked into Grays Harbor County Jail.
