New funding available for airports

The Washington State Department of Transportation is now accepting applications for the second round of 2013–2015 airport grants and anticipate awarding $1.9 million in funding for projects.

In 2012, Ocean Shores Municipal Airport received over $30,000 in funding from the grants for their runway maintenance project and over $555,000 in 2009 for lighting improvements. The Willapa Harbor Airport had previously received over $789,000 for repairs, $12,000 in grant funding for a USDA Wildlife Assessment, $27000 for an Airport Layout Plan and report. Bowerman Airport in 2007 received over $285,000 for projects.

As part of this round of grants, WSDOT will also implement its new Statewide Capital Improvement Program. Airports must apply for projects included in the SCIP, and WSDOT will prioritize applications based on their project scores.

Applications are due by 5 pm on April 30 with projects targeted for completion by June 30, 2015.

WSDOT will announce grant-award decisions the week of June 2, 2014.
