Mayor Vickie Raines to run for County Commissioner

Cosmopolis Mayor Vickie Raines will announce her candidacy for Grays Harbor County Commissioner tonight at an event in her town.

Raines told KXRO that running for the office has been a goal, but she had been waiting for the right time.

“I think that this is a good time and an opportunity for me, and for the citizens of Grays Harbor.”

Raines was sworn into office as Mayor of Cosmopolis in 2002, after serving on their City Council. Since that time, she has served as chair of the Chehalis Basin Flood Authority.

Following redistricting of the County in 2011, Raines would be running to represent District #3, covering Cosmopolis, Hoquiam, and the northewestern portion of the county. This seat is currently held by Commissioner Herb Welch. Welch has been in the office since 2010, but for the last several months has been limited in his activity due to medical issues.

Raines says that she has already begun assembling a team of people to work with her on the campaign from areas throughout Grays Harbor, and has already filed with the Public Disclosure Commission.
