Local Drug Take Back Day tops previous totals

The 7th National Drug Take Back Day in Hoquiam topped the numbers from the last event according to Police.

Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers told KXRO that 76 people came to the Hoquiam Police Station on Saturday dropped off 166 lbs of expired or unused medication.

At the last Take Back Day, Hoquiam Police had 53 citizens drop off 122 pounds. To date, the department has collected and disposed of 773 pounds of medication since 2010.

Americans participating in the six previous Take-Back Days turned in nearly 2.8 million pounds, almost 1,409 tons, of prescription drugs.
