Hoquiam standoff home set to be demolished today

A burnt home on Aberdeen Avenue is getting torn down this morning.

This home is different than a normal house fire, because this is the home that a man named Ray Mahailovich held the over 20 hour standoff with police in March.

The standoff began when Mahailovich shot Hoquiam officer Jeff Salstrom as a warrant was being served for Felony Fraud and ended when the man came out of the home shooting at a tactical unit.

Officers returned fire and the man died at the scene as the home burst into flames.

Hoquiam city officials say that crews have already begun to demolish the home.
