Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers says they wanted to honor the officers for their outstanding work during the stand off.
Salstrom was shot three times during the arrest attempt and also earned a Purple Heart. Chief Myers praised Salstrom’s police work and talked about his injuries while presenting his medal.
The stand off ended when the suspect was shot dead when he came out of the burning home and exchanged fire with the police.
