Hoquiam combining departments

The City of Hoquiam has approved a Memorandum of Understanding with their local union to merge their city crews into one to create one Public Works Crew for the city.

City Administrator Brian Shay told those in attendance on Monday night that this agreement will combine the Hoquiam Community Services, Sewer, Street, Storm, and Water departments into what will know be known as the Public Works Crew.

Shay says that the opportunity made itself more available with the retirement of Foreman Albert Waters set for December 4th after over 30 years with the City. That position will not be filled, and instead a new position for Public Works Superintendant will be created out of both foreman roles, and the crews will combine.

Shay says that this agreement will bring a significant savings to the City.
