High wind warning for Grays Harbor

The National Weather Service in Seattle has issued a HIGH WIND WARNING for the coastal areas of Western Washington from 1pm to 9pm Thursday.  Affected areas will be Westport, Ocean Shores, Hoquiam, Pacific Beach & Taholah.

Daytime winds will be Southerly at 17-22 mph increasing to 30-40 mph with gusts to 60 mph. Strongest winds will be in the late afternoon into the early evening.

A WIND ADVISORY has been issued for the interior of Grays Harbor County including Montesano, Elma, McCleary and Oakville from 2pm to 10pm. Winds will increase to 20-25 mph with gusts near 45 mph.

Heavy rain is also expected throughout most of the day. The winds are expected to diminish in the late evening hours.

A High Wind Warning means that conditions are occurring or imminent. Winds could topple trees and break branches, increasing the potential for power outages.

DO NOT USE Portable Generators indoors or near open windows or doors. Be alert for signs of Carbon Monoxide poisoning such as drowsiness, nausea, vomiting and headache. If you or any family members experience these symptoms, LEAVE the property immediately and call 911.

Use extreme caution while driving due to heavy rain and wind creating reduced visibility and pooling of water on roadways.
