Floating bridge being deconstructed

2Following the local construction of the SR 520 floating bridge pontoons and installation, the former bridge is now being torn down.

The WSDOT tells KXRO that crews have begun to remove the former bridge from Lake Washington and will continue through the end of 2016.

Kiewit/General/Manson  will be removing columns and trusses, concrete, and supports and hauling them away to other sites.

All 33 pontoons from the old bridge have been sold and will be reused elsewhere.

According to a report, other portions of the bridge will be broken apart and taken to a concrete recycling facility or used for other construction projects.
