Filing for public office starts today and runs through this week at the Grays Harbor County Auditor’s Office in Montesano.
Offices up for re-election include Grays Harbor Sheriff and city council positions throughout the county.
Sheriff Rick Scott was appointed in October of last year when Mike Whelan retired after 35 years with the department. The Grays Harbor County Commissioners appointed former Undersheriff Rick Scott to the position and he will now need to run to retain.
In Aberdeen, 6 city council positions are open for election. The 4-year terms are available in wards throughout the city. 6 positions are also up for election in Hoquiam. The cities of Cosmopolis, Ocean Shores, Westport, Montesano, Elma, McCleary, and Oakville all have council positions available.
Mayors Gary Dent of McCleary and Charles Norskog of Oakville, and Port of Grays Harbor Commissioner Chuck Caldwell will need to refile in order to retain their seats in the open election. Numerous fire district and school boards seats from the coast to East County are all available.
All filings must be submitted by the end of the business day on Friday. May 20 is the last day for candidates to withdraw.
