Elma man arrested for rape of a 13 year old girl

The Grays Harbor County Sheriff’s Office has arrested a 35 year old Elma man after a woman told them that she had just caught her 35 year old boyfriend molesting her 13 year old daughter.

Chief Criminal Deputy Steve Shumate told KXRO that when deputies arrived on scene on Lennon Road, the man had fled the scene and into the nearby woods.  The Aberdeen Police K-9 unit was called in to search the area.

According to GHSO, the man had recently started a sexual relationship with the 13 year old, without the mother knowing.  She told detectives that she woke up around 3 am to find the man and her daughter naked.

The owners of the home, parents of the 35 year old, were out of state at the time. The mother and her daughter left the scene and returned to their home.

A neighbor called deputies after seeing the man around 1:30 pm returning to the home.  Deputies gained a search warrant, and when they entered they say that they found a number of firearms throughout the home.  They were told that there may be other firearms in the home.

The Aberdeen Crisis Response Unit (CRU) responded and attempted to contact the man for “several hours” along with family members.

The Elma School District announced that they closed off the area around the arrest for all school buses during the investigation.

Just before 7 pm, the man surrendered to police and was taken to Grays Harbor County Jail where he was booked for Rape of a Child.

CRU is a joint unit from multiple local jurisdictions.  Those members included officers from Aberdeen, Hoquiam, and Montesano PD, as well as deputies with GHCSO.

Also on scene were two Washington State Patrol troopers who contained the property.
