Cosmopolis increasing levy by 1% in 2014

The City of Cosmopolis chose to take advantage of an available 1% increase to their tax levy for 2014.

At Wednesday’s City Council meeting, the increase was approved by a unanimous vote.

Following the closure of the Weyerhaeuser mill, the city chose not to use the 1% increase for multiple years. Mayor Vickie Raines said that while they chose not to use the increase before, now it is needed.

Raines said, that by not taking the increase, it could hurt the city. While they may have not used the increase for years, she said that it was the right thing to do at the time.

According to the city, the increase will adjust for inflation and new costs.

The increase will add $4,054 to the levy.
