Commissioners pass recommendation for flood prevention

The Grays Harbor County Commissioners passed a resolution in support of a recommended flood prevention alternative from the Chehalis Basin Work Group.

The resolution was in favor of EIS Alternative No. 1 which includes a dam, flood proofing structures, improvements to land use management, and local projects that would include a range of habitat restoration actions meant to increase salmon and other species populations.

Commissioners Vickie Raines and Wes Cormier voted in favor of the recommendation but Commissioner Frank Gordon voted no saying he did not believe a dam would be a good plan for fish.

Commissioner Raines said she thinks it is the best alternative.

This is not the approval of the plan but a recommendation to the Governor’s Chehalis Basin Work Group and State Department of Ecology.
