“Come As You Are” will stay as it is

Following a backlash from Kurt Cobain and Nirvana fans from across the United States, Mayor Bill Simpson clarified the rumors that the City of Aberdeen had plans to replace the unofficial “Come As You Are” motto that greets those entering the city.

Simpson said “As far as I’m concerned, at this point in time, ‘Come As You Are’ is not leaving. So let’s put it to rest, let’s get it over with, let’s get it forgotten.”

While the City is in the preliminary stages of replacing all 3 main signs on Highway 12 due to age, at this time there are no plans to change the content, only to replace what is already there.

The sign, attached to “Welcome to Aberdeen”, was added in 2005 following work by the Kurt Cobain Memorial Foundation to honor Cobain following the 10 year anniversary of his death.
