Brian Bassett will not see a change in his sentence before the end of the year.
On Monday, Bassett returned to Grays Harbor almost 18 years after he and Nicholaus McDonald killed his parents Wendy and Michael Bassett, and his 5 year old brother Austin.
Seated once again in front of Judge Godfrey, Bassett’s family members watched as Interim Grays Harbor County Prosecutor Gerald Fuller and Bassett’s attorney Eric Lindell discussed the pending decision that brought them into the courtroom, saying that with unclear requirements, a large number of the evaluations into the sentences will be appealed.
No final decision was made on Monday, but a stay was initiated on a verdict as the Supreme Court clarifies their position. Bassett is expected to return to Grays Harbor again sometime in the Fall or after the first of the year.
