Aberdeen Special Workshop specifically on homelessness response

A Special Workshop tonight will see the Aberdeen City Council hear from other communities on how they are working with the issues of homelessness in their area.

At 7pm in the Aberdeen City Council Chambers, the city council will hear presentations from Casey Schaufler of the City of Olympia as well as Byron Olsen, Deputy City Manager of the City of Walla Walla to talk about what programs they have put in place to address the current needs in their cities for emergency shelter.

Mayor Erik Larson posted on the Facebook page for his current candidacy that he had been recently traveling to other communities to learn what they have been doing and see those “who have been taking bold steps to address the  impacts of homelessness” in order to bring it back to Aberdeen and “clean up our streets.”

Also included on the agenda is a presentation from Aberdeen Police Chief Steve Shumate and their safety response.

The special meeting will be focused on the agenda items.
