In a release, the department states that their new volunteer driven patrol, called “Volunteers In Police Services”, or VIPS, will be patrolling the local streets thanks to a sponsorship by Rich Hartman and his Five Star Dealership and a donated 2017 Buick Encore. The vehicle will be a feature in the new program as volunteers conduct citizen patrols to assist APD.

APD said, “Our thanks go out to Rich Hartman and his Five Star Dealerships for working with us, by providing this valuable resource to get the program rolling.”

The VIPS program is scheduled to officially kick off the second week of August with volunteers assisting with business checks, vacation residence checks, special events, clerical activities at the station and administrative support.

Sgt. Steve Timmons will coordinate the program and reports that he currently has 8 people committed to participate, and he is looking for another 5-7 residents.

If you are interested in being a part of VIPS, contact Sgt. Steve Timmons at 360-538-4445.
