Aberdeen Mayor Simpson Reacts to D&R Closure

Business developer John Yonich announced that he is closing the D&R Theatre, Scoops and Backstage Espresso. Aberdeen Mayor Bill Simpson said that the first he heard of the D&R closing was when he received a phone call form Yonich at about 3:15 on Friday.

Simpson said that Yonich informed him that he was going to close the theatre, and when asked if they could talk about it, Yonich said there was nothing to talk about. Simpson says that he is sad to see the theatre go.

After the Kurt Cobain Memorial Committee put on the first show in October of 2009 with multi-platinum rockers Candlebox at the D&R, the theatre had several major performers  such as Bill Cosby, Josh Turner, Eric Church, Styx, Lorretta Lynn and Paul Rodgers.
