Aberdeen City Council Seat Open in January

Despite originally considering doing double duty as a County Commissioner and a City Councilman, Frank Gordon will be resigning from his Aberdeen seat when he gains his county title.

The Aberdeen City Charter says that the council should fill his vacancy by election of the city council. This person would finish Gordon’s term, which expires in 2013, before running in the next general election.

The city council can nominate and elect a member of Gordon’s Ward 6 to fill the seat.

In the past, the city has published a notice about the vacancy for those interested to put their name into contention, although that is not required.
