WSDOT ANNOUNCES SPRING START FOR PONTOON SITE WORK

The DOT plans on breaking ground this spring on the facility that will turn out the massive pontoons for the new SR520 floating bridge. In a news release on the bid process for the three design/build contractors for the bridge deck, the DOT says they are “breaking ground in Grays Harbor next spring to build 33 emergency replacement pontoons that could also be used for the planned replacement of the floating bridge”. The $367-million project has been delayed as the DOT waits for the release of the environmental review of the Aberdeen site. The design build contract is expected to total $600 to $750-million. In all, the state has budgeted over $4-billion for the replacement project.
