Woman in custody following kidnapping in McCleary

A 35 year old Tumwater woman is in custody following a kidnapping. Undersheriff says that the woman was recently released from Jail and was at her sister’s home just outside of McCleary when the incident occurred.

The suspect left the home on foot with her 10 year old niece and 3 year old nephew. Her sister followed in her vehicle. When she got out of the vehicle to retrieve the children, the suspect got in with the 10 year old and drove off. The Elma woman was able to contact McCleary Police to report the theft and kidnapping.

Before an Amber Alert could be issued, Tumwater Police were able to locate the suspect at her boyfriend’s home and take her into custody and the child into protective care. The stolen vehicle was found in a nearby parking lot.

The 35 year old is currently being held at for Kidnapping in the 2nd Degree and Theft in the 1st Degree.
