Unemployment locally follows state trend over 2 months

Grays Harbor unemployment rose in October from the September rate, but below August numbers, sitting at 10.9%. Even with the drop, we are still the highest unemployment for the state. In September, our unemployment was 10.4%.

The Pacific County unemployment rose in October, up to 10%. In August, the rate sat at 9.6%. In September, Pacific had an unemployment rate of only 9.3% before increasing in October.

Washington’s unemployment rate was relatively constant over the past two months. Numbers released last week by the Department show that the state’s unemployment rate was 6.9% in September and 7% in October.

Due to the federal shutdown, the Washington state Employment Security Department did not release the September unemployment report for Washington counties until yesterday.
