No statewide unemployment figures released this month

Due to the federal shutdown, the Washington state Department will not release the latest unemployment report for September on Wednesday as planned.

The state Employment Security Department said Friday that because the federal Bureau of Labor Statistics is closed, it hasn’t transferred the September report to the states. The September jobless numbers, which were scheduled to be released Wednesday, will be delayed indefinitely.

In addition, nearly all of Employment Security’s labor-market information staff has been furloughed because the federal funds that support the office have been cut off.

Once the federal office is open again, we will learn if and when there will be a September report.
