New Athletic Director selected for Aberdeen

Aberdeen could have a new Athletic Director soon.

The school district tells KXRO that Superintendent Dr. Thomas Opstad has selected Aaron Roiko of Cosmopolis as athletic director for the Aberdeen School District and he plans to formally recommend his hiring to the School Board at the August 9 meeting.

At various times over the past 10 years, Roiko has coached boy’s junior varsity basketball, varsity girls’ basketball and served as an assistant coach for boy’s golf.

He has been employed by the Cosmopolis School District as a sixth-grade teacher since 2004.

Roiko holds a bachelor’s degree in communications/public relations from Northern Michigan University, a bachelor’s degree in elementary education K-8 from Washington State University, and a master’s degree in education administration and leadership, along with his principal certification, from Grand Canyon University.

The new athletic director will oversee extra-curricular athletics for the district in grades 7-12.

“We conducted a thorough search to find the right person for this position,” Dr. Opstad said. “I am very pleased to be recommending Aaron Roiko to the Board of Directors.”
