Montesano Woman Dead Following Accident Outside of McCleary

A two car collision on Highway 8 outside of McCleary left one person dead and two injured on Monday.
spokesman Paul Petrinovich said that both vehicles were headed eastbound when a 32 year old man was driving in the left lane and tried to switch lanes in his 2006 Honda CRV. 60 year old Karen Sawyer of Montesano was in the right lane driving her 1997 Mercury Sable. The CRV collided with the other car, sending the Sable off the road and into a large tree. The car spun around and came to rest partially in Wildcat Creek. The CRV veered off the road to the left, striking the cable barrior and crossing both lanes of SR8 before coming to rest on the other opposite side of the highway.

Sawyer died at the scene. A passenger in her car became trapped and had to be cut out by responders before being transported to Capitol Medical Center in Olympia. The Grayland man was sent to Summit Pacific Medical Center.

The road was blocked for almost 5 hours.
