Hoquiam Officers honored for work during standoff

Hoquiam Mayor and Hoquiam Police Chief presented two Medals of Valor to officers for their part in the stand off on Aberdeen Avenue on March 27th.

The stand off that lasted over 20 hours began when Hoquiam officers were serving a felony fraud warrant and both and Phil High were honored last night for their bravery during the attempted arrest that turned south. Hoquiam Police Chief Jeff Myers says they wanted to honor the officers for their outstanding work during the stand off.

Salstrom was shot three times during the arrest attempt and also earned a Purple Heart. Chief Myers praised Salstrom’s police work and talked about his injuries while presenting his medal.

The stand off ended when the suspect was shot dead when he came out of the burning home and exchanged fire with the police.
