Grays Harbor’s unemployment continues to drop

For the third month in a row Grays Harbor’s rate dropped but it is still the fifth highest in the state.

In April the unemployment rate was 8.9% which was down from March’s 9.3%.

Only Ferry (10.8), Stevens (9.3%), Pend Oreille (9.2%), and Pacific County at 9.1% had higher April rates.

Even though the labor force in Grays Harbor dropped for the third consecutive month the total number of people employed grew from March’s 24,784 to April’s 24,846 and the total unemployed dropped by 101 from 2,535 to 2,434.

This is the lowest April unemployment rate for Grays Harbor since 2008.

In Pacific County both the labor force and the total number of people employed grew (7,340 from 7,201) while the total amount of people unemployed dropped from 760 to 737.

Pacific County saw an increase from last year’s April unemployment rate of 8.9%.
