Charlie Choker vying to be the best in the Northwest

Charlie Choker is in a battle for the best mascot in the Northwest.

The Athletics Department says that the college mascot will be competing against 18 other Northwest Athletic Conference Mascots in a contest to find out whose mascot is considered the best.

In a post, they say the contest, sponsored by The Mascot Company, begins today and is going to take place entirely on social media.

The winner of the contest will bring a $1,000 scholarship for the school.

There are weekly challenges for the mascots to do in their regions.

GHC asks students and residents to follow Grays Harbor College Athletics on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram to follow Charlie.

The winner will be announced on February 13th.

CHALLENGES
Below are the weekly mascot challenges that are scheduled for the 2017 Mascot Challenge. Please follow all guidelines stated. Ideas are listed for each challenge to help you brainstorm creative ways to complete each task. The NWAC will also publish weekly updates each Monday showing total votes from the previous week.

Week 1 Preliminaries

Local Landmark PrideJanuary 9th – January 13th

Being located in the Pacific Northwest, our schools are fortunate to be surrounded by several beautiful landmarks that are both natural and man-made making our area unique from the rest of the country. The opening challenge is focused on embracing your school’s local landmarks and what makes your school’s location unique from all the others in the NWAC. Think along the lines of snapping a few photos of your mascot with Mt. Rainier in the background, enjoying a long walk on the beach of the Pacific Ocean or Columbia River, or even enjoying the location of some famous businesses like the Nike Campus or Boeing Factory.

Guidelines:
Limit: One photo per school. Memes may be included on the photo, and are encouraged to boost creativity.
Please post your “Local Landmark Pride” photo to all your approved social media websites with the hash tag #NWACmascotchallenge2017 by no earlier than January 9, 2017 (For the extreme, yes you can post at 12:00am on this date). Week 2 Preliminaries

Mascot Music VideoJanuary 16th – January 20th

This week’s challenge is all about every school’s mascot channeling their diva side. Hop on board with the latest music trends and re-create a music video with your mascot. Think along the lines of The Running Man Challenge, the Harlem Shake, or Mannequin Challenge.  If any new songs with signature dance moves/challenges catch your eye, create a mascot video to catch the attention of your school’s community.

Guidelines:

Week 3 Elite Eight

Get InvolvedJanuary 23rd – January 27th

The NWAC and many collegiate schools are always trying to find ways to give back to the communities that give so much in order to help keep our programs running. This week’s challenge is all about getting involved and making connections within your community. Have your mascot represent your school by volunteering with a local nonprofit organization. Helping serve food at a local homeless shelter, pick up garbage along the roadway, or hold a clothing drive are a few basic ideas.

Guidelines:
Limit: One photo or 30-second max video per school.

Week 5 Final Round

Practice Makes PerfectFebruary 6th – February 10th

There is no glory in practice but without practice there is no glory.  This one is a two-parter. First, film your mascot in training to be the best mascot he/she can be.  Maybe your mascot is working out at the gym, or maybe at basketball practice or with another team on campus.  Think training montage like in the movies, Rocky, Karate Kid or GI Jane.  Now comes the results!  Film your mascot interacting on campus, like at a game pumping up the crowd or performing at halftime. Your mascot may even be at some other event on campus like an involvement fair, or high school recruiting.  Whatever it is we want to see the ultimate result!

Guidelines:
Please keep this video to 60 seconds or less
