A downturn in the wood products market has more than halved the amount of money Grays Harbor will receive for timber blown down during the December 2nd and 3rd storm. County Forester Larry Smith says the $1.67-million dollars bid for the five parcels of timber was 40-percent of the total the county would have received in December of 2006. Smith says the flooding of the market and the downturn in the housing market serves as a "double whammy" but that the blowdown leaves the county no choice but to attempt to salvage some profit from the December winds that exceeded 100 miles per hour.
