A man who reportedly fired a shot at his daughter during an argument was arrested by Hoquiam police officers on Sunday morning following a 12-hour standoff.   Deputy Chief Jim Maloney says officers were called to the 3rd Street home at 3:15 on Saturday afternoon after the suspect's daughter reported that her father had fired a shot in her direction during an argument.  The daughter and her son then fled the home to wait for the police to arrive.

As an officer was speaking to the woman outside the home, the man appeared on the front porch, yelled profanities at the officer and retreated into the home.  A standoff involving Hoquiam and Aberdeen officers, Grays Harbor County Sheriff's deputies and State Patrol troopers ensued, in which two surrounding blocks were secured and nearby homes evacuated.  Aberdeen and County negotiators spoke to the suspect off and on during the standoff and at 3:15 this (Sunday) morning, were finally able to talk the suspect into placing his gun on the porch and surrendering.  As officers entered the home, the suspect refused to comply with their instructions and a taser was used to subdue the 67-year old man.  The suspect then told officers that he had taken a large amount of prescription medications and he was taken to Community Hospital for examination.  Maloney says the man has been taken to the County Jail and will be arraigned today on charges of 1st Degree Assault.

While no one was injured during the shooting or standoff, Maloney says during the investigation, it was determined that the bullet fired at the daughter had missed her back by inches.  The investigation is still underway.
