The City of Hoquiam is examining the possibility of becoming one of the first cities in Grays Harbor to have its own Emergency Operations Center. Through a surplus equipment and property consortium, the city would be able to acquire a 14-by 52-foot modular office building in Okanogan County at no cost and at a cost of $2000, move it a "high and dry" location between the city cemetery and reservoir.Police Chief Jeff Myers says the structure is more likely to survive an earthquake than any other city facilities and can be stocked with furniture and computers that allow it to be brought into action at a moments notice. The issue will be discussed at the next meeting of the Public Safety Committee. |
