The Wynoochee Dam opened this afternoon just after 2pm for approximately 10 minutes sending 4000 cubic feet per second of water downstream. According to the Army Corps of Engineers it has created a 3 foot wave of water. Deputy Director of Emergency Management Chuck Wallace says the 3 foot surge should “wash out” as it travels downstream. Boaters and fishermen should be alert for the surge.
Homeowners should be alert for any issues along the river through the evening.
No flooding is expected, but anyone on the upper river should be prepared for the surge.
